Ingredients
- 1 pound ground hot Italian chicken sausage
- 1 large white onion, diced
- 1-2 red bell peppers, diced
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1-2 tablespoons basil pesto
- 4-8 ounces cream cheese
- 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
- 1 cup shredded spicy cheddar or fontina cheese
- 8-10 slices pepperoni
- Fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 loaf ciabatta bread
- 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup water or broth
Method
- 1Brown ground hot Italian chicken sausage in a cast-iron skillet, breaking it apart.
- 2Add diced white onions and red bell peppers to the skillet; sauté until vegetables soften and steam rises.
- 3Stir in minced garlic and Italian seasoning, cooking for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- 4Pour in water or broth to create a saucy base, scraping up any browned bits from the skillet.
- 5Add the block of cream cheese to the hot mixture and stir until it melts and combines, making the dip creamy.
- 6Mix in shredded parmesan, provolone, and spicy cheddar/fontina cheeses, basil pesto, and diced tomatoes.
- 7Top the dip with an additional layer of shredded provolone cheese and arrange pepperoni slices on top.
- 8Bake in the oven until the cheese is bubbly and melted, and the pepperoni slices are crispy.
- 9Garnish generously with fresh chopped parsley after removing from the oven.
- 10Serve the warm dip directly from the skillet with torn pieces of crusty ciabatta bread.
