Welcome to Gokun (“we,” “our,” or “us”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services.

Information We Collect

Personal Information

When you create an account or use our services, we collect:

  • Phone number (required for account creation and OTP-based authentication)
  • Display name (optional)
  • Avatar image (optional)
  • Household information you choose to share (household name, member nicknames, roles)

Dietary, Health, and Preference Data

To personalize your experience, we collect:

  • Diet preference (vegetarian, egg, or non-vegetarian)
  • Household size
  • Dietary restrictions (e.g., no onion, no garlic, gluten-free, no dairy, less spicy)
  • Health conditions you choose to share (e.g., diabetes, thyroid, PCOS, celiac disease) for the purpose of generating AI-based dietary recommendations
  • Stated food preferences, taste preferences, and nutritional goals shared through in-app conversations
  • Language preference for recipes (Hindi, English, or Hinglish)

Usage Information

We collect information about how you use the app:

  • Device identifier (a unique ID generated for your device)
  • Meal plans and saved recipes
  • Meal reactions and comments shared within your household
  • Recipe search and filter queries within the app
  • Session information (login timestamps)

Audio Data

With your permission, the app may access your device microphone for:

  • Voice notes on meal plans
  • Voice-guided cooking features

Audio data is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly share a voice note within your household.

Photos and Camera

With your permission, the app may access your camera and photo library to:

  • Add custom photos to meals you plan or save
  • Scan the contents of your fridge for ingredient-based meal suggestions (the image is sent to Google Gemini for ingredient detection and is not retained beyond that request)
  • Set a profile or household avatar

Photos you add to meals or your library are stored on Cloudflare R2 (our image CDN) so they can be viewed across your devices and shared with household members.

Push Notification Tokens

If you allow push notifications, we store the push token issued by Apple or Google for your device so we can send you household updates, meal reminders, and product news. Tokens are deleted when you remove the app or revoke notification permission.

Subscription and Billing Data

Gokun offers optional paid subscriptions (Pro and Pro Plus). When you purchase a subscription:

  • Your payment is processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not receive, store, or have access to your card or bank details.
  • We receive an anonymised customer identifier and entitlement information from RevenueCat (our subscription infrastructure provider), so we know which features to unlock for your account.
  • We track usage of paid quotas (for example, AI meal generations or fridge scans consumed) against your active entitlement.

Information We Do Not Collect

Gokun does not collect the following:

  • Location or GPS data (within the Gokun app; Chef Privé orders collect delivery address separately — see “Chef Privé” below)
  • Contacts or address book information
  • Card or bank details (in-app subscription purchases are processed entirely by Apple or Google — we never see your payment information)
  • Email address (not required to create a Gokun account; if you choose to share one, we use it only to contact you)
  • Browsing history outside the app

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Authenticate your identity via phone number and OTP
  • Personalize your meal and recipe recommendations based on dietary preferences, health conditions, and stated goals using AI
  • Generate AI-estimated nutritional information for recipes
  • Generate AI-based dietary constraint recommendations when you share health conditions
  • Enable household sharing features (meal plans, reactions, comments, saved recipes)
  • Track recipe variety to help you avoid repetitive meals
  • Improve our app and develop new features
  • Ensure security and prevent unauthorized access

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

  • Household members: If you join or create a household, your display name, dietary preferences, meal plans, reactions, comments, and saved recipes are visible to other household members.
  • Nutritionists (if you opt in): If you accept a meal plan or check-in from a nutritionist using Gokun for their practice, that practitioner can see the meal plans, logged meals, nutrition totals, and check-in responses you share with them. You can revoke this access at any time by ending the engagement in-app or by writing to support@gokun.xyz.
  • Service providers: We use the following third-party services to operate the app:
    • Supabase (database hosting and authentication infrastructure)
    • Message Central (OTP delivery via SMS and WhatsApp)
    • Google Gemini (AI-powered meal suggestions, nutritional estimates, dietary recommendations, and fridge-photo ingredient detection)
    • RevenueCat (subscription state and entitlement management)
    • Apple App Store and Google Play (payment processing for subscriptions — we never see your payment details)
    • Cloudflare R2 (image CDN for photos you add to meals, recipes, or your library)
    • Vercel (website hosting)
  • Legal requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights.

We do not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in the app.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information:

  • Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS
  • Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device using platform-native secure storage
  • Session tokens expire after 7 days and must be refreshed
  • Database access is protected by row-level security policies

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal information stored in the app
  • Correct inaccurate data (update your profile, preferences, and household information directly in the app)
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Leave a household at any time, removing your association with that household's shared data

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. When you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes. Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for service improvement.

Children's Privacy

Our services are not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to delete that information.

AI-Generated Content and Health Information

Gokun uses artificial intelligence to provide certain features, including meal plan suggestions, nutritional estimates for recipes, and dietary constraint recommendations based on health conditions you share with us. You should be aware that:

  • Nutritional information (calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, and other values) displayed for recipes is estimated by AI models and has not been verified by nutritionists or through laboratory analysis
  • Meal plans and dietary suggestions, including those tailored to health conditions, are generated by AI and are not a substitute for professional medical or nutritional advice
  • Health condition data you provide is used solely to generate AI-based dietary recommendations within the App and is not reviewed by healthcare professionals

We encourage you to consult with a qualified healthcare provider regarding any dietary decisions, particularly if you have medical conditions or specific nutritional needs. For full details, please refer to the Health Disclaimer in our Terms and Conditions.

Chef Privé (order.gokun.xyz)

Chef Privé is a separate Gokun service for ordering fresh-cooked home meals, accessed via order.gokun.xyz. If you use Chef Privé, we additionally collect the information required to fulfil your order — delivery address, contact phone number, order history, and any customisation notes. Chef Privé orders are separate from your Gokun app account; we do not share your Chef Privé delivery address with anyone outside our fulfilment operations.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date.
