Ingredients
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1/3 cup water
- 3/4 cup Toor dal
- 1.5 cups water (for dal)
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup dry whole wheat flour (for dusting)
- Oil/ghee for cooking
Method
- 1Cook Toor dal with 1.5 cups water and turmeric until soft (approx. 26 mins), then mash.
- 2Add 1 cup sugar to the mashed dal and cook for 6 minutes, stirring until thick.
- 3Stir in cardamom powder and nutmeg into the dal filling.
- 4Combine whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and 2 tablespoons oil in a bowl.
- 5Gradually add water and knead to form a soft dough.
- 6Divide both the dal filling and dough into 10 equal portions.
- 7Flatten a dough ball into a 2.5-inch disc, place filling in center, and seal to form a ball.
- 8Dust the filled dough ball with flour and roll into a 5-inch flatbread.
- 9Cook Puran Poli on a hot griddle with oil/ghee until golden brown and puffed.
