Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3/4 cup Toor dal
  • 1.5 cups water (for dal)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup dry whole wheat flour (for dusting)
  • Oil/ghee for cooking
Method
  1. 1Cook Toor dal with 1.5 cups water and turmeric until soft (approx. 26 mins), then mash.
  2. 2Add 1 cup sugar to the mashed dal and cook for 6 minutes, stirring until thick.
  3. 3Stir in cardamom powder and nutmeg into the dal filling.
  4. 4Combine whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and 2 tablespoons oil in a bowl.
  5. 5Gradually add water and knead to form a soft dough.
  6. 6Divide both the dal filling and dough into 10 equal portions.
  7. 7Flatten a dough ball into a 2.5-inch disc, place filling in center, and seal to form a ball.
  8. 8Dust the filled dough ball with flour and roll into a 5-inch flatbread.
  9. 9Cook Puran Poli on a hot griddle with oil/ghee until golden brown and puffed.
