Ingredients
- 1 cup masoor dal
- 2-3 tsp urad dal
- Small piece green chili
- 1 inch ginger
- 3 cloves garlic
- Handful fresh chopped cilantro
- 1 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp red chili powder
- Small amount oil
Method
- 1Soak masoor dal and urad dal in water.
- 2Drain the soaked lentils.
- 3Combine the drained lentils, green chili, ginger, and garlic in a blender.
- 4Blend the ingredients into a smooth, thick, pale orange batter.
- 5Transfer the blended batter to a bowl.
- 6Add chopped cilantro, salt, and red chili powder to the batter.
- 7Stir the batter thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
- 8Heat a black cast iron griddle (tawa) on a stove.
- 9Pour a ladleful of batter onto the hot tawa.
- 10Spread the batter in a circular motion from the center outwards to form a thin, round pancake.
- 11Drizzle a small amount of oil around the edges of the cooking chilla.
- 12Cook the chilla until it turns a vibrant golden-brown with visible crispy edges.
- 13Lift the cooked chilla with a flat spatula and fold it in half.
