  • 1 cup masoor dal
  • 2-3 tsp urad dal
  • Small piece green chili
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • Handful fresh chopped cilantro
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp red chili powder
  • Small amount oil
Method
  1. 1Soak masoor dal and urad dal in water.
  2. 2Drain the soaked lentils.
  3. 3Combine the drained lentils, green chili, ginger, and garlic in a blender.
  4. 4Blend the ingredients into a smooth, thick, pale orange batter.
  5. 5Transfer the blended batter to a bowl.
  6. 6Add chopped cilantro, salt, and red chili powder to the batter.
  7. 7Stir the batter thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
  8. 8Heat a black cast iron griddle (tawa) on a stove.
  9. 9Pour a ladleful of batter onto the hot tawa.
  10. 10Spread the batter in a circular motion from the center outwards to form a thin, round pancake.
  11. 11Drizzle a small amount of oil around the edges of the cooking chilla.
  12. 12Cook the chilla until it turns a vibrant golden-brown with visible crispy edges.
  13. 13Lift the cooked chilla with a flat spatula and fold it in half.
