Ingredients
- 1 cup chana dal
- 1/2 cup moong dal
- 2 medium potatoes
- 1 inch ginger
- 2-3 green chilies
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2-3 cups cooking oil for deep frying
Method
- 1Soak chana dal and moong dal for at least 4 hours.
- 2Grind soaked chana dal and moong dal into a coarse paste using a food processor.
- 3Transfer the dal mixture to a bowl and add mashed potatoes, chopped ginger, green chilies, cilantro, coriander powder, salt, asafoetida, and black pepper.
- 4Mix ingredients thoroughly by hand until well combined, then shape into 7-8 flattened patties.
- 5Heat cooking oil in a deep frying pan until it is moderately hot.
- 6Carefully place the formed patties into the hot oil and deep-fry until they turn golden brown. Remove and drain.
- 7Allow the first-fried patties to cool for about 8 minutes.
- 8Slice each cooled patty in half lengthwise using a knife.
- 9Return the sliced patties to the hot oil for a second deep fry until they achieve a deeper golden-brown color and a crispy texture.
- 10Remove from oil, drain excess oil, and serve.
