Ingredients
  • Approx. 4-5 large pieces fresh turmeric roots, thinly sliced
  • Approx. 2-3 pieces fresh ginger roots, thinly sliced
  • Water (enough to simmer the roots)
  • Fresh lime juice (from a small wedge per serving)
  • Maple syrup (a drizzle per serving)
  • Pink salt (a pinch per serving)
  • Black peppercorns (ground, a few turns of a grinder per serving)
Method
  1. 1Thoroughly clean fresh turmeric and ginger roots, then thinly slice them on a cutting board.
  2. 2Heat water in a stainless steel saucepan until it starts to bubble.
  3. 3Add the sliced turmeric and ginger to the bubbling water.
  4. 4Reduce the heat and gently simmer the mixture for 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. 5Allow the simmered mixture to cool down.
  6. 6Pour the cooled mixture into a blender and blend until it reaches a smooth consistency.
  7. 7Pour the blended mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a large glass measuring jug to separate the smooth juice from any remaining pulp.
  8. 8Transfer the strained juice concentrate into a clear glass bottle suitable for refrigeration, where it can be stored for up to a week.
  9. 9To serve, pour the Jamu Juice concentrate into a clear glass.
  10. 10Squeeze fresh lime juice from a small wedge into the drink.
  11. 11Add a drizzle of maple syrup (or raw honey), a pinch of pink salt, and a few turns of freshly ground black pepper to the drink.
  12. 12Stir the drink and serve.
