Ingredients
- Approx. 4-5 large pieces fresh turmeric roots, thinly sliced
- Approx. 2-3 pieces fresh ginger roots, thinly sliced
- Water (enough to simmer the roots)
- Fresh lime juice (from a small wedge per serving)
- Maple syrup (a drizzle per serving)
- Pink salt (a pinch per serving)
- Black peppercorns (ground, a few turns of a grinder per serving)
Method
- 1Thoroughly clean fresh turmeric and ginger roots, then thinly slice them on a cutting board.
- 2Heat water in a stainless steel saucepan until it starts to bubble.
- 3Add the sliced turmeric and ginger to the bubbling water.
- 4Reduce the heat and gently simmer the mixture for 10 to 15 minutes.
- 5Allow the simmered mixture to cool down.
- 6Pour the cooled mixture into a blender and blend until it reaches a smooth consistency.
- 7Pour the blended mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a large glass measuring jug to separate the smooth juice from any remaining pulp.
- 8Transfer the strained juice concentrate into a clear glass bottle suitable for refrigeration, where it can be stored for up to a week.
- 9To serve, pour the Jamu Juice concentrate into a clear glass.
- 10Squeeze fresh lime juice from a small wedge into the drink.
- 11Add a drizzle of maple syrup (or raw honey), a pinch of pink salt, and a few turns of freshly ground black pepper to the drink.
- 12Stir the drink and serve.
