- 1 glass water
- 1 large betel leaf, torn into several pieces
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1-inch fresh turmeric root, roughly chopped
- 1/2-inch fresh ginger root, roughly chopped
- About 4 whole cloves
- About 1-2 small green cardamom pods
- 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns, crushed
- 5-6 tulsi leaves, torn into smaller pieces
- 1/2 teaspoon black salt, or to taste
- Half a lemon, for squeezing juice
- Honey, to taste (optional)
Method
- 1Wash the betel leaf and tear it into pieces.
- 2Add 1 glass water to a saucepan.
- 3Add the torn betel leaf, 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds, 1/4 teaspoon fennel seeds, and about 4 whole cloves to the saucepan.
- 4Finely chop the 1-inch fresh turmeric root and 1/2-inch fresh ginger root and add them to the saucepan.
- 5Add about 1-2 small green cardamom pods to the saucepan.
- 6Place the saucepan on a gas stove and bring the mixture to a boil.
- 7Crush 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns and add them to the boiling mixture.
- 8Tear and add 5-6 fresh tulsi leaves to the boiling mixture.
- 9Boil the mixture well on medium flame for 10-15 minutes.
- 10Add about 1/2 teaspoon black salt into a clear glass mug.
- 11Strain the herbal mixture directly into the glass mug.
- 12Squeeze half a lemon juice into the drink and add honey to taste, if desired.
