Ingredients
- 1 cup chana dal
- 3 cups milk
- 1/3 cup white granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup ghee
- 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
- Cashews (for garnish)
Method
- 1Wash 1 cup chana dal until water runs clear.
- 2Soak chana dal in 3 cups milk in a pressure cooker for 3 hours at room temperature (or overnight in fridge).
- 3Cook mixture in pressure cooker: whistle once, reduce flame to simmer, whistle once more. Release pressure.
- 4Transfer cooked chana dal and milk to a wide non-stick pan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring continuously.
- 5As milk reduces, stir and mash dal. Continue cooking until mixture thickens and becomes creamy.
- 6Add 1/3 cup white granulated sugar and mix until dissolved.
- 7Gradually add 1/2 cup ghee in two portions, stirring until fully incorporated and halwa is smooth and golden.
- 8Stir in 1/4 tsp cardamom powder.
- 9Garnish with whole cashews and serve warm.
