Ingredients
  • 1 cup chana dal
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup ghee
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • Cashews (for garnish)
Method
  1. 1Wash 1 cup chana dal until water runs clear.
  2. 2Soak chana dal in 3 cups milk in a pressure cooker for 3 hours at room temperature (or overnight in fridge).
  3. 3Cook mixture in pressure cooker: whistle once, reduce flame to simmer, whistle once more. Release pressure.
  4. 4Transfer cooked chana dal and milk to a wide non-stick pan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring continuously.
  5. 5As milk reduces, stir and mash dal. Continue cooking until mixture thickens and becomes creamy.
  6. 6Add 1/3 cup white granulated sugar and mix until dissolved.
  7. 7Gradually add 1/2 cup ghee in two portions, stirring until fully incorporated and halwa is smooth and golden.
  8. 8Stir in 1/4 tsp cardamom powder.
  9. 9Garnish with whole cashews and serve warm.
