Ingredients
  • 6-8 slices white bread
  • 1/2 cup crushed walnuts
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup white milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon white cardamom powder
  • 2-3 tablespoons pale yellow butter
Method
  1. 1Cut white bread slices into small pieces.
  2. 2Process bread pieces into fine bread crumbs using a food processor.
  3. 3Lightly crush walnuts using the food processor.
  4. 4Add bread crumbs to a non-stick pan over medium heat.
  5. 5Sprinkle white granulated sugar over bread crumbs and continuously stir until caramelized and light brown (about 3 minutes).
  6. 6Pour milk into the pan and stir vigorously until the mixture thickens into a soft dough.
  7. 7Add cardamom powder and butter, stirring until butter melts and is incorporated.
  8. 8Add crushed walnuts and mix thoroughly.
  9. 9Transfer the warm burfi mixture onto a clean square plate.
  10. 10Spread and press the mixture evenly into a flat, square shape using a spatula.
  11. 11Slice the large square into smaller, uniform square pieces (approximately 16 individual burfis).
